Southern BBQ

Hey y'all...I'll be in Tennessee and Kentucky tourning the South for about the next week...eating at some places like Jack's BBQ, and visiting places like Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. I have been wanting to do this tour for over seven years.

The Weekend

It has been a busy week with my cousin Nick. The circus, Dodger game, and some sweet comedy. (there was dessert)
Frank McCourt personally gave Nick ten tickets to the Dodger game for last friday. They beat the Nationals. The lady below, Nancy, on the left is Frank's executive assistant and she came down to say hello. Thanks again, Frank.

The comedy show.

Send in...the CLOWNS!

We went to the circus last night at the Honda Center. Surprisingly, there were more trapeze artists than animal stunts.

AN UPSIDE-DOWN MOTORCYCLE!

There were SEVEN motorcyclists in this little cage!

The hat came with the cotton candy...

And ended up as a "fun prop." It's one way to get on the blog!

Brett kept saying that he could live in the box room. Sundaes, soda, churros, popcorn, nice couch...what more could you ask for!

Russian bus ride needs some funk...

Bout time I showed my face around my blog! (FYI, I am in the pic on top...) I was showing the Russians the power of funk with Bootsy Collins and Parliment. It was one funky bus ride!

Time to Laugh

Next Saturday, July 26, 2008, my cousin Nick is going to have a few comedians tell a some "jokes on the lawn." Everyone is welcome to come. Bring your own chair. I believe the night starts around 6:30 and come ready to eat some dessert and popcorn (they have a mini popcorn machine!). If you want to go and need details, email me.

Tomorrow, we are going to the circus at the Honda Center. Someone gave them some "Suite" tickets. Hopefully, I can bring my camera.

Next weekend, I am off to Tennessee and Kentucky for a family reunion and mini road trip vacation. Erica will go with me. She likes the Italian family events. She also keeps asking if I have made any other plans for other things to do out there. So far, the only plans I have are to drive around without a map and find southern BBQ restaurants. I don't know what Erica is worried about, but my schedule is full.

90 years for the fight of freedom.

Today is Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. Last weekend I read the
Time Magazine Article. There were some things he said that really stuck with me.

Courage is not the absence of fear — it's inspiring others to move beyond it

Know your enemy — and learn about his favorite sport

Appearances matter — and remember to smile

During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to the struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.[9]

Sometimes, in our generation and as Americans, we really forget the true meaning of freedom, and instead complain about the injust way politics and taxes are run in our country. Take some time to think about how some other countries ARE STILL STRUGGLING for basic civil liberties, such as freedom and the right to vote. We can really learn a lot from other countries and their leaders view of life, and to be grateful of the freedoms we have today. Nelson Mandela was in prison for over 25 years because he fought for civil liberties and for his people.

I don't hear George W. Bush saying he would die for his country and for freedom...

Under Construction

I have been working on my book the last couple of nights, and the images are looking real tastey.

Here is a shot of Joe Photo. Joe showed me that layering dirty textures over the images makes them look cool.

Lenin. There is a statue like this in every town in Russia.

MOCKBA

Lenin's Tomb. Last time I walked right by it and didn't know what AEHNH meant. The yellow building behind the wall is the Kremlin.

This huge building was one of the seven "Sister" buildings that controlled the Russian Communist Government, AKA...Big Sister.
